Discussion board post- Media in a changing global culture. March 22

The connection of media and technology in a global culture has changed throughout the years and will continue changing. The way we are receiving our information is changing. According to Elizabeth Thoman and Tessa Jolls “Media Literacy: A National Priority for a Changing World”, being able to just read the printed word is no longer enough for children, youth and adults. We must all learn to be able to critically interpret the powerful images of multimedia culture. I agree with this because times are changing and just about everything is on the internet. People are buying less books because it is easier to get information via the internet and the media. Being able to understand how the media works is extremely important for this generation. It paves the way to mastering the skills required for lifelong learning in a constantly changing world. I agree with this statement, the world keeps on moving forward and the media is becoming more and more advanced.

In the article “Eight traits of the New Media Landscape” written by Henry Jenkins, he talks about how innovative the media landscape is. As life keeps continuing, everyday there is a new breakthrough in this society and the 21st century. The turnover of technologies is extremely rapid. He also talks about how family rooms are now becoming entertainment centers. Just about everything in the household is electronic now. Technology has become apart of our everyday lives and it doesn’t seem to be stopping. I doubt it ever will.

I found the article written by Mark Pagel the most interesting. “Modern humans have created many thousands of distinct cultures. So what will it mean if globalization turns us into one giant, homogenous world culture?”. This caught my attention because globalization will eventually turn us into one giant culture. The world has become a melting pot.
