Penelope Andujar and Kaitlyn Woelpper’s Class Activity (~30 minutes):
- Divide into three groups.
- Think of a prominent trend/group/counterculture within the last twenty years that developed primarily from an interactive online platform.
- Now, fast-forward twenty years from now. Predict where you foresee the future of online communities heading. For example: How will the platforms that house these communities evolve? What do you think the next big trend will be? Will users be able to have more or less privacy/anonymity? How do you think online slang/communication will transform? What would the logo to this platform look like?
- Which online community do you think will become completely irrelevant in the next twenty years and why?
Restrictions and Guidelines
- No use or variation of current online slang. Example: lol, lmao, omg…BE CREATIVE!
- Cannot share more than three similar characteristics to any current group, community, or platform.
- There must be a theme to your online group.
