As we already know and learned throughout the semester technology is advancing more and more every day. We barely have to do anything ourselves now in days. There’s some sort of technology for any and everything that we want to do. Now, when you go to some restaurants they have iPads on the table so that you can order your food yourself and all your server has to do is bring it to you instead of actually writing your order down like they used to do. Also, if you want to make an appointment somewhere you don’t even have to pick up the phone and do so anymore. You can just have google assistant do it for you. Lastly, you don’t even have to be home to answer your door anymore, because they now have a technology device called “Ring.”
I think the next big thing in digital communication is going to be ring, because ring is not just some playful gadget, it is actually keeping families safe and aware. Ring was founded in 2012 by Jamie Siminoff. Recently as of last year, ring had a 97% share of U.S video doorbell sales, according to the market research firm NYPD group. Ring is a doorbell with a camera attached to it. Once you buy the ring doorbell you then download the app that way you can connect the camera to your phone. Once everything is set up you will start getting notifications to your phone every time somebody rings your doorbell. Not only are you able to see who it is ringing the bell you can also speak to them through the speaker. Ring also has motion detection so you can get alerts even when somebody comes on your property. You have the leisure of setting up your own motion detection in certain spots so that way you’re not getting random alerts on your phone every time somebody walks by. This doorbell comes with infrared night vision that way you can see the video clearly at night. It also comes with live view on demand video and audio, 1080HD wide angle video. Ring works on any home and includes a quick release rechargeable battery, that way you can change your doorbell without removing the device. It is also compatible with iOS, Android, Mac, and Windows 10.
I think this idea of Ring doorbell being our future is a valid predictor because of the fact that it is very useful and everybody likes the idea of being safe. You no longer have to worry about thieves trying to break into your house or those ridiculous package thieves. I know a few people whose packages have been left on their door step and then stolen, but now, with this new doorbell you no longer have to be paranoid about missing a package. Now you can easily speak through the speaker and tell the mail carrier to either put your package around the back or simply ask them to leave it at the neighbor’s house. Another thing is when you go on vacation you can feel comfortable with knowing that you can monitor your house and know when suspicious activity occurs.
This doorbell is legit in everything that it does. It doesn’t just scare robbers off, it actually gets them locked up. There were several incidents where people saw suspicious activity on their doorbell camera of somebody trying to break into their house. Once they showed this evidence to the police the suspects were caught in a few days. With a device like this that actually keeps people safe and keeps the bad guys off the street, there should be no question as to why this wouldn’t be the next big thing. This isn’t one of those devices that are just ridiculous and just makes people lazy. It actually does something good for society.
There are way more pros than cons when it comes to this device. One con that I have seen so far is the fact that this device cannot be used in apartment buildings. It would be pretty hard to try to install it in apartments, because for one you usually have to have some sort of a master key to enter any building. So, that already kind of stops intruders from trying to get in. Also, if for some reason you decided to still install it in your apartment the motion detection may get very annoying. Although you have the leisure to adjust the motion sensors it just may be inevitable to get it to just go off when someday walks up to your door because people are going to constantly be walking by your door to get to their apartment. The last thing anybody would want is to be annoyed by constant notifications on their phone. Whereas, if you live in a house you have more open space so you have more options when it comes to using the motion sensor. Another con would be the fact that you can’t actually open the door with this app. Some people feel that it would be convenient if you could let somebody in through the app if you’re not home. For example, if you’re expecting a guest but you’re running late because you’re stuck in traffic you could simply let that person in without any worries. The way technology is moving I don’t see ring owners having to wait much longer for that feature to be added to the app. There are several pros when it comes to this doorbell. One would be the fact that this doorbell is weather resistant. Some people worried about their camera getting messed up during the rain and windy weather, but with the weather resistant bell you never have to worry about the weather messing up your camera. Another pro which I mentioned already is the fact that it catches robbers. It includes live video so that way you can see things as they are happening. The two way speaker is also a huge pro when it comes to this device. The two way speaker gives off the illusion that you’re home. There is no doubt in my mind that this wont be the next big thing.
