Television is swiftly moving into a direction of complete user autonomy. Up until recent years, television was classified as one platform with an array of channels, and there was little choice the viewers had other than what channel they chose to watch. The characteristics of television have transformed greatly, and there is no longer one concise definition as to what television is. The emergence of streaming platforms such as Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime are rapidly taking the place of channels and cable packages, and users are now able to have complete control as to what they watch and how they watch it. The article The Future of T.V: Digital, Traditional and Something In Between features a good quote from actor, Kevin Spacey, on the topic; ” let them binge…device and length are irrelevant…It’s all content. It’s just story. The audience has spoken. They want stories” (Kozlowski, 2014). I agree with this sentiment. I think the implementation of streaming services is just the natural progression of at-home entertainment. The article The Messy Confusing Future of T.V? It’s Here. raises a good point that the most difficult part of the full transition to streaming services is probably going to be figuring how to bundle them together and gain cooperation from the industry giants. In regards to reality television and its effect on human communication, I think these programs have sparked an increase in viewer involvement and interaction. Many reality shows have a dedicated following which present themselves through online websites such as Twitter and Facebook. These audiences are able to watch these programs as well as communicate with other viewers in real time. They form tight-knit online communities, share inside jokes, and create memes and gifs based around these shows, and have developed their own unique way of communicating. Watching reality television has become no longer an individual experience, but rather a shared one.

Discussion Board Post: Reality and Digital Television
Digital television has proved to be one of the best things created since sliced bread. Before digital television, we had an analog television, which was based on a broadcast to audience format which had certain limitations to its audience. We were only able to watch channels/shows at designated times. Over the past twenty years’ digital television came along and that has changed how we view TV and how we interact. Now, we can watch TV on different mechanisms like our cell phones, tablets and even gaming systems like X-Box and Play Station. Gone are the days when you can only go on the internet on your desktop computer. We can now go on the internet and go to sites directly like YouTube right through our Smart TV with two clicks of the remote. I would believe most folks are grateful for the change in television.
Previously, the audience didn’t really have a choice. We used to view television through the TV and the TV alone. Now we can watch digital TV on our cellphone, through our computers, and on streaming services. Even though cable television was out in the 70’s it still was in an analog format and all we could do was watch a couple of channels and turn the channels. With digital TV, we can do so many things. For one with digital TV, we have more say on how we want to watch TV and when. Now, there are streaming shows like Netflix and Hulu in which we can “binge” watch shows and seasons at our leisure! I would have never thought that this could happen to be that I’m an 80’s kid. Cable was huge back then but years later with increased technology cable’s television reign would slowly come to an end. A study on PC World stated that streaming services would soon take over. The article online stated, “While cable still dominates the living room, the development of services like Hulu and Boxee make it clear that cable’s lock on the American living room is about to get rocked in a very big way.” (Ian Paul, June 2009)
Reality television has certainly taken over the world of television. In my opinion reality television is a joke just like a lot of the videos on YouTube. In the reading, Smart We Live, Hart stated, “YouTube turned mundane daily life into public spectacle.” (Hart Pg. 1) This type of behavior and bad acting has taken over so much that in my opinion there are more reality television shows than regular scripted shows. Back in the days, I believe one of the first reality shows was The Real World and that was in the early 2000’s. At that time, there were only a few like American Idol and then bam! A wave and a continuous wave of reality shows flooded our televisions every night. I’m surprised that standard scripted shows still exist today in 2018. Reality TV has changed the way in which we understand human communication. One reason is that since reality shows are supposed to be “real” a lot of times people try and imitate what they think is real on a reality show. A lot of times this can bad. For example, the reality show Love and Hip Hop feature a storyline of two women in love with the same man and one woman is married to the guy but the one who isn’t still dealing with him because she had him first. A friend of mine told me that she is doing the same thing because she said, “this is real and helpful.” So now she treats her man the same way as the character and her relationship suffers. Unfortunately, she is one of the few who doesn’t believe that reality television isn’t real. People must be careful watching these shows because some of the bad behavior can spill into their own lives and wreak havoc.

Class activity After presentation Post
1. What was your activity? Please be specific on what you asked the class to do and what you hoped it would accomplish.
Basically my class activity was for the class to be split up into two groups. Both groups had to answer 4 questions, but one group would work individually while the other group would work together. The group working together would symbolize crowd sourcing vs professionals which would be the group of everyone who is working alone. All of their answers counted as user generated content
2. Did you think it was successful?
Yes i think it was very successful, i got a lot of very useful feed back and everyone was engaged which was very exciting and what i wanted. All together i wanted to have many different answers.
3. Did it achieve your implied goals?
Yes and no. I achieved my goals to get a lot of feedback, but i wanted to get my point across more that although working alone professionally that working together or in a crowd is very efficient as well.
4. What did you learn from the experience?
i learned that everyone is full out of ideas. And everyone has their own thought process. Some a little more critical than others, but everyone is very unique in their own way.
5. How would you take this project further as a research tool and what results would you hope to achieve?
i would add more questions and add more people to the study. So it can be a more accurate and i could come to better conclusions.

Crowdsourcing can leave a positive or negative affect on people .On the positive side, crowdsourcing can get content on their locales from this. Next to zero cost individuals will express there considerations, assessments and answers to what ever they have an opportunity to talk on. They, for the most part give you three opportunities to call somebody who can enable you to find the solution you’re searching for. In this nation there are certainly individuals who are more astute than each other so simply envision the achievement rate finding solutions from crowdsourcing. Presently an enormous issue would be for the workers, when your organization is crowdsourcing it can hurt them immensely since they will not have to utilize what ever you reviewed or your answer for an undertaking that was given. The organization may need different perspectives on it they might be a superior fit for what they’re searching for.
Consultants can wind up having their composed piece on magazines or web writes just from pitching their work to the organization for what ever rate was talked about. Doesn’t really mean you work for the organization yet you have your work posted on these distributions and like said before than can hurt the worker yet additionally open doors for anybody searching for an approach to increase some income.I feel that everything ties into a similar idea. Business can thrive in light of the fact that now you have the outside group of onlookers ringed into what you do going ahead utilizing the Internet. We have distributions like twitter where you can run surveys, make inquiries and get reactions, and communicate with individuals you’ve never at any point met. It is hard to believe that technology is becoming superior to some of the very minds who come up with these sort of ideas. Crowdsourcing seems to be a much larger topic than i could have imagined before reading all these articles.

Crowd sourcing
Crowdsourcing is the use of people or a person for certain services whether they get paid or unpaid according to the definition from the dictionary. It seems like nowadays people are doing crowdsourcing. They don’t really care if they get paid or not as long as they are helping someone. You have the professional crowdsourcers and the amateur ones according to the article the “blurring line between professional and amateur.” The professional ones produce great content and get paid for it while the amateur ones make the same great content as the professionals and they don’t get paid. They are just happy to get the privilege to help out. According to the article “ the decline and fall of tech on digg,” they talk about how a lot of tech stories are not getting published like they used to. The percentage has rapidly decreases over the past decade. Crowdsourcing has opened up a lot of jobs for people as well. There are jobs such as photographers and other people needed and you can either get paid for the photos or whatever it is that you do or you are just basically volunteering your services. In the article “the rise of crowdsourcing,” they talk about a site called iStockphoto where you had both professional and amateur photographers trying to sell their pictures. The professionals would put a high price of their services and products. The amateur photographers would sell their products at a low price and offer their services sometimes for free. The site had made a lot of money from this and is very popular. Crowdsourcing is a good way to get yourself out there. You get to meet people and they see what you can do and it’s up to you whether you charge them or not depending on if you see yourself on the professional level or if you are still an amateur

Crowdsourcing 3/1
Crowdsourcing, from my understanding (and a Google search), is the practice of getting information into a task or project by using the services of multiple people. Companies that have grown alongside the age of the Internet are pretty much designed to take advantage of this networked world. The labor that these companies do isn’t free but it costs less than paying traditional employees. To me, crowdsourcing almost sounds like freelancing because it uses the labor of other people. According to “The Blurring Line Between Amateur and Professional”, the media is basically divided in two: professionals who produce content and are paid for it, and amateurs who consume content but pay for that privilege.
I think that crowdsourcing is changing the way that companies approach creating content because now that user-generated content is on the rise, an experienced and credible journalist can compete with an amateur and the amateur can still receive the same amount of recognition or more. Many media outlets and websites will allow an amateur to write for free or not much pay. It almost reminds me of the Traditional Journalists vs. Bloggers assignment that we had a few weeks back. I think that crowdsourcing is going to continue to be a trend in the media world because nowadays any content can go viral at the hands of an amateur as opposed to a professional.

Crowdsourcing
Prior to reading this articles I had no idea what crowdsourcing meant. Crowdsourcing is “the practice of obtaining information or input into a task or project by enlisting the services of a large number of people, either paid or unpaid.” I definitely do think that crowdsourcing is changing the way that companies go about approaching creative content. I think companies now have to go harder and try to find ways to be unique in what they do. I think they also have to pay more attention to the type of audience they are attracting. They need to make sure that whatever it is that they plan on coming up with will attract their audience in ways that other companies cant. That way if another company tries to come up with the same thing it won’t be considered competition. I say this because in the article titled “ The rise of crowdsourcing” This man speaks about how he thought he was being generous by offering discounts to people for photographs, but come to find out there were other places out there where people were getting the same thing for as little as a dollar. This caused him to lose so much money. It seems to be even harder for professional writers. In the article titled “The Blurring Line Between Amateur and professional” they speak about how “seasoned journalist and credentialed experts have to compete for attention. To me it is kind of like how some people prefer to read blogs than to read “real news” these professional writers work hard then “crowdsourcing” comes along and just makes everything harder.
I don’t think there’s much that companies can do but to just try and think outside the box when coming up with new ideas. Especially with this generation of social media. It is a lot of competition now.

Crowdsourcing
Crowdsourcing can increase creativity and productivity while decreasing research expenses. In one of the articles it explains that istockphoto s a website where photographers would trade stock photography which was way cheaper than buying the stock photos from someone. Crowdsourcing can offer different ideas and work from many different people like istockphoto its collections from various different parties that is serviced all through the internet. In Istockphoto they include work from “amateur, photographers, homemakers, dancers, students, and engineers” and the images are sold for low prices of $1-$5. Crowdsourcing allows contributors to get their work out there and allows anyone who needs this information to access information for low prices.
User Generated content are websites like youtube, where producers are also consumers or at least there is a very blurry line between them. This is no longer a collection of peoples work in one, this is individual an example you tubers make videos of what they like as an individual. As oppose to crowdsourcing where people trade and sell common works. In one of the articles mentioned that many media sites are asking if they are really willing to pay for content when there are so many people willing to give their content for free. User generated content is potentially jeopardizing professional journalist.

Crowdsourcing
Crowdsourcing can be a plus and minus to individuals. Well on the positive side, crowdsourcing can get content on their sites from this. Little to no cost people will express there thoughts, opinions and answers to what ever they have a chance to speak on. Shows like “who wants to be a millionaire” or any other types of game shows, they usually give you three chances to call someone who can help you get the answer you’re looking for. In this country there are definitely people who are smarter than one another so just imagine the success rate getting answers from crowdsourcing. Now a huge problem would be for the employees, when your company is crowdsourcing it can hurt because they may not need to use what ever you wrote up or your solution to a task that was given. The company may want other views on it they may be a better fit for what they’re looking for.
I may be wrong but sounds a lot like freelancing writers. Freelancers can end up having their written piece on magazines or internet blogs just from selling their work to the company for what ever rate was discussed. Doesn’t necessarily mean you work for the company but you have your work posted on these publications and like said before than can hurt the employee but also open opportunities for anyone looking for a way to gain some income.I feel that it all ties into the same concept. Business can flourish because now you have the outside audience chimed into what you do going forward using the Internet. We have publications like twitter where you can run polls, ask questions and get responses, and interact with people you’ve never even met.
