Being in a technology driven society, it is obvious that we are advanced in media literacy. After reading the first article by Elizabeth Thoman, the idea of how advanced we are in media is demonstrated with the example of how we get our information. According to Elizabeth, not only do we gathering our daily information through words on paper, we also get it through “powerful images and sounds of our multi-media culture”. For example, news about politics and events in our society can be found in videos and articles on social media platforms; some of these platforms consist of Instagram and Facebook.
Reading article two, Eight traits of the new Media Landscope, I noticed that it was basically justifying what was spoken about in the first article. A few examples are provided by Henry Jenkins, the author of this article, explaining how and what the internet is being used for today. One trait mentioned was appropriation. This trait is based on how easy it is to copy, repost or quote other peoples pictures and videos from their page. Another trait that was talked about was networked. In this part of the article, Jenkins just speaks about how each social media platform is connected in one way or another. Also speaking about how people are able to communicate with each other whether it being on a more personal level through direct messaging or on a more public scale.
In my opinion, we as a society are very advanced with the technology we have and how we are using it.
